Formed soon after the demise of local band FORCEFED, around mid '94, TRIGGER was essentially the songwriting team of Adam & Mat. The band first came to recognition with a support for the American band the BAD BRAINS ( at the Palace hotel in St Kilda ), which also featured the MEANIES on the bill. Surrounded by a few smaller shows, the band played under the name Beanfeast ( for various reasons ) and managed to raise funds for the first TRIGGER demo ( recorded at Birdland studios ) in August '94. This demo contained the songs, Still Water, Dripping, Detach, My Mistakes and eminator.
Subsequent to recording the demo, BORED! ( for which Mat was playing guitar with ) embarked on a six-week tour through Europe and the U.K, thus putting TRIGGER on hold for a short period. Upon return, Adam & Mat were soon discouraged by a dissolving rhythm section and spent the following months searching for replacements.
After much deliberation over the rhythm section, TRIGGER secured the current line-up in early May '95, returned to live performances by the end of July '95, and have since found a steady array of shows in their path.In September '95 TRIGGER returned to Birdland Studios to record a second demo (consisting of 4 tracks), and in March completed work on a video clip for the song CASTING (which appears on the second demo). The band has recently recorded 5 tracks and a second video for the track 'Still Water'.
Some of the bands TRIGGER have played with include...YOU AM I, BODYJAR, FRONT END LOADER, COSMIC PSYCHOS, CELIBATE RIFLES, UNSANE (USA), INCURSION, POWDERFINGER, AUTOMATIC.. and also a performance at the SUMMERSAULT festival in December '95 (Melbourne Showgrounds) with the likes of theTHE BEASTIE BOYS, THE FOO FIGHTERS, SONIC YOUTH, RANCID, PAVEMENT etc.
The band plays a dynamic brand of music, and hold the SMASHING PUMPKINS as a strong influence. However the works of Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar..) and Ian MacKaye (FUGAZI, MINOR THREAT etc)are also held in high regard within the band, yet maintain inspiration solely through the diversity of life ....
